Lizard Still Winless After Falling To Beer Effort Good, But Not Enough
It was a rematch of last session's championship game between bitter rivals Beer and Winking Lizard. The Lizard played a much more competitive game this go round, but the result was the same, a loss, 4-2. The Lizard got on the board first with 1:50 left in the first period as Brian Vance took a pass from Jimi "Jimi-time" Murray and buried the biscuit. Then Beer rattled of three straight goals, 2 soft ones, to take a 3-1 lead into the third period. The Lizard got within a goal at the 6:32 mark of the third period as Murray scored unassisted. With about a minute twenty left in the game, the Lizard pulled goalie John Mathias in favor of an extra skater. The Lizard fired off several shots, but couldn't get any in the net. Beer scored an empty net goal with 28 seconds left to seal the victory. As is usual when these two teams meet, there was some extra curricular activities as time wound down. Lizard penalty leader Jeff McGuire was in the center of it all. "It's a physical game when we meet," McGuire noted. "Both teams play that way. The difference is we don't whine when the game gets physical." |
