OLT Knocks Phantoms out of the Ranks of the Unbeaten Gibbs' Duece Propels Edge to Convincing 4 - 1 Victory
OLT opens this session with three games in their first five against foes who have won the Championship over the past three sessions. The season-opener was a 4-4 draw against Nationwide, last night the Edge downed the Phantoms 4-1 and this coming Super Bowl Sunday the boys in white, red and blue square off against the Jager Bombs. "We've had some real good performances over the past few sessions, but I think we played our best game in recent memory last night", reflected OLT Captain Mike Mahler. "We worked hard, moved the puck around well, and really fired on all cylinders." "It's a good thing Mahler did that conditioning asignment over in Asia over the past couple of weeks", quipped OLT's burly enforcer Steve Roth. "I don't know what he was doing over there, but he played half the game last night and looked to be in decent form for someone turning 51 years old this coming weekend." Bryan Randles got OLT on the board first with a great individual effort with 7:58 remaining in the initial stanza. Randles banked the biscuit off the boards at the defensive blue line, collected the puck, raced down the ice and collected his own rebound on the backhand to make it 1-0. Center Steve Gibbs then made it 2-0 early in the middle period off of a nice feed from defenseman Scott Mansfield. Gibbs made a nifty deke move on the tender and it was 2-0. The Phantoms made it 2-1 midway through the second and the game was tight until Gibbs netted his second of the evening, going five-hole on the Phantom netminder with 5:13 left in the third. Dan Harker and Chad Laber assisted. Right winger Steve Roth then iced the game less than a minute later on helpers from Larry "The Claw" Vozar and Harker. Great effort guys! See you in Dublin this Sunday at 9:20 as we face off against the Jager Bombs! |
