Lizard Keeps Orange Winless Dean Nets Two In Victory
The Winking Lizard played in their old stomping gorunds in the Worthington bubble last night and skated away with a 4-2 victory behind two goals from center Adam Dean and a two point night by forward Brian Vance. The victory was the Lizard's second in a row after opening the session with two disappointing losses. Dean quickly put the Lizard up winning the opening face off to Jimi "Jimi-Time" Murray. Murray flipped a pass to Vance who saw Dean open near the net and delivered the rubber to him. Dean ripped it past the Orange netminder putting the Lizard up 1-0 just 26 seconds into the game. Later in the first period dean struck again creating a turnover in the Orange zone and lasering the puck into the net to give the Lizard a 2-0 lead. Orange got within a goal in the second period. They scored a powerplay goal at the 8:29 mark. Then Orange tied the game in the third period with an even strength goal that was flipped slowly in the air and floated past net minder John Mathias. "It looked like slow motion as they scored that goal," observed Lizard captain Steve Roth from the bench. "When the puck came off his (Orange Player) stick it seemed to float end over end into the back of the net." That last goal by Orange seemed to get the Lizard going. The Lizard went on the power play. Roth kept the puck in at the point and got it to forward Phil Sisia who then ripped a shot five hole to put the Lizard up 3-2. This proved to be the eventual game winner. Then the Lizard iced the game on a sweet goal by forward Brian Vance. It was a working man's goal as Vance hustled through several defenders unassisted and bulged the twine. The Lizard went on to win 4-2. "It was a good win," goaltender John Mathias said. "And nobody had to see Schlaecter in only his jock strap this time around in the lockerroom. That feels like a victory too." |
