Lizard Falls In OT 2-1 To Team-Team Spirited Effort, Timely Saves Key In OT Loss
The Lizard faced off against Team Team, a new club in the Thursday night D league, and gave one of their best efforts all season in a 2-1 OT loss. It was a tight game throughout as both teams pressured and both goaltenders made spectacular saves. It was a scoreless tie until the 3rd period when Team team scored on the powerplay to go up 1-0. "The points were left open, they had some easy shots from up there and one hit the back of the net," Lizard captain Steve Roth said. The Lizard responded with just 4:44 left in the game. Lizard forward Brian Vance hit Charlie Wagner with a pass. Wagner, with his back to the net, flipped a backhand that handcuffed the Team Team netminder and slid into the goal. The game went into over time and Team team scored the game winner at the 2:18 mark of the extra frame to win it. "It was disappointing because we played so well tonight," Tim Rieder said. "John (Mathias) had a great game." |
