OLT Halts 4 Game Skid Behind LB Vozar Game Goes To Shootout, OLT Prevails
OLT ended it's longest losing skid in years at 4 games with a tough 4-3 win in a shootout. Larry " Lobster Boy" Vozar led the way with a goal in regulation and the game winning tally in the shootout to lead OLT to victory. Allegiance got on the board first with a goal in the first minute and a half of the game, but OLT quickly responded shortly thereafter. Dynamic defenseman Chad Laber skated the puck deep into the zone and hit hulking forward Bryan Randles with a pass. Randles, who has an uncanny nose for the net, tricked everyone and hit Vozar with a crisp pass right on his tape. Vozar ripped the puck into the net to tie the game. OLT Took the lead in the second period as center Scott Morris hit the twine off a feed from Chuck Kovach. That lead held until the third period when Allegiance score two quick goals 28 seconds apart. One was off the faceoff and another looked to be a dump in that was judged wrong. OLT tied the game a few minutes later as forward Dan Harker passed the puck up to the crafty Chad Laber who skated his way through traffic and let a shot go on net. The rebound kicked out to Randles stick like metal on a magnet and Randles tied the game at 3. The game went to a running clock OT with no line changes at the stoppage of play. Changes could only be made on the fly. OLT pressured most of the OT period, but couldn't end it. The game went to a shootout. OLT's shooters were Scott Morris,Dan Harker and Larry "LB" Vozar. Allegiance's first shooter scored. Morris was stuufed at the net. The next Allegiance shooter was thwarted by Mathias. Harker was up and he skated in and slid the puck to the right of the goalie into the net after he got him to commit left. Mathias then stuffed the next Allegiance shooter and that brought up Vozar. Vozar skated in and then went far right. So far right that everyone thought he was heading toward the Zamboni door to leave the ice. This included the goalie who must have left the net thinking Larry was gone. But not so, because Larry turned on the jets and banked back left and had some much real estate open at the mouth of the net a blind man could have scored. Larry calmly clawed the puck into the net sending the OLT bench into a frenzy. "I saw Larry go towards the Zamboni door and I thought he gave up and was leaving," Kovach said. "We need that win," Morris said. "Big win!" |
